This morning I went to Revelations 4. In this chapter the apostle John is "in the Spirit"(vs.1) facing the throne in heaven and the One seated on the throne. What amazing, amazing sights and happenings he experiences!
This is by no means a quiet, tranquil experience. What catches my attention today is all the movement before the Glorious One.
From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder. Before the throne, seven lamps were blazing.(vs.5)
All around the throne are the twenty-four elders, dressed in white and sitting on thrones, wearing crowns of gold on their heads.
And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say, "Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!"
And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying,"Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created."
Big Breath. Wow, that chapter takes my breath away.
They fall down before Him.
They were sitting on their thrones; now they are down on their faces.
They cast their crowns before the throne.
Those golden crowns that were upon their heads are now scattered all over that crystal-like, sea of glass. Cast- "to throw or let go of a thing without caring where it falls" according to Strong's.
Not a thought for themselves.
I'm struck with the beauty of what's going on here.
God, The Centre of the whole scene - and I mean the whole scene there and here, now and always - seated on the flashing, thundering, glorious throne is the One. He is the One worthy to receive all glory and honor and power. FOR...why?...because He created all things. They exist and were created by His will - also translated for His pleasure. You and I were created and exist by His purpose and for His pleasure.
I think that's amazing. We worship the Glorious One who is worthy! And that Glorious One also clothes us in white(purity), crowns us, and seats us with Christ in the heavenlies. It's almost too much to take in..this glory that He also gives to us.
But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ--by grace you have been saved-- and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:4-7.
I just had to spend some time face down, flat on the floor this morning in worship of our incredible God. I carefully got down though - certainly didn't fall down - but I'm sure I'll willingly fall before God in heaven when knees and bruising won't be an issue!
